Masters Studies learning from the masters
Our present and the possibilities of the future
come on the shoulders of the past. Studying past masters whose works enthrall, mystify and talk to me result in subjects to explore. Translating their imagery into my medium -felt- offers up so many insights. How did they get those colours, how can I? Is that elongated neck stylistic; the skill of the artist integral to the composition and intent? At some point in my study - sometimes quite far along as in the da Vinci study of St. Anne ( Virgin and Child with St. Anne ) and other times, early on, the felt becomes its own entity. Obviously, I'm not da Vinci and his tenderness of that face is heart-breaking. Process note: This piece in the slide show, is entirely needle-felted. The foundation is a commercial pre-felt. The headdress and surrounding area are complete now, I just need to photograph it and add it here. |
